Salary and Benefits

Starting salary placement depends on qualifications, experience and salary budget, and will not exceed $6,250 a month.

This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.

The Green Music Center (GMC) is committed to a donor-centric relationship-management approach to development. Every member of the team plays an integral role in providing donors with the highest level of cultivation and stewardship to ensure a positive and fulfilling philanthropic experience that leads to results in fundraising outcomes.

Reporting to the Green Music Center’s Senior Director for Development, the incumbent will work collaboratively with other University Advancement and Green Music Center team members to establish fundraising strategies and implement fundraising activities to secure philanthropic support for Sonoma State University priorities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, collaborating to support the development, planning and implementation of a comprehensive Annual Giving program that increases participation and financial support for the Green Music Center and advances the mission. The incumbent also supports effective communication initiatives tied to fundraising projects as assigned by the Senior Director for Development.

Major duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following in support of the Department of Green Music Center: The Annual and Foundation Giving Manager works closely with the Senior Director of Development to implement the annual fundraising plan, collaborating with the development and marketing/communications team to manage a comprehensive annual fund program. Said program is designed to raise unrestricted funds for operations and programming, broaden the donor base, and provide an entry point for moves management in support of the mission and vision of the Green Music Center and Sonoma State University. The incumbent is responsible for overseeing a variety of fundraising programs including a targeted, multi-approach direct mail program, a pro-active personal solicitation program, and incorporating electronic requests for gifts. The incumbent is also responsible for contributing to the development and production of relevant fundraising materials to include, but not limited to, brochures, appeal letters and gift confirmations, liaising with other members of the Green Music Center, university advancement team and external suppliers as necessary. The incumbent implements a coordinated matrix of communication and solicitation strategies involving e-mail, direct mail, telephone, personal visitation and volunteer engagement, all focused on shaping a sustainable tradition of annual support.

The Annual Fund Manager also coordinates and develops the annual gift societies, including tracking donor acquisition and renewals, managing memberships, and assisting with stewardship activities. Identifies annual fund donors and prospects ($100-$10,000) with a focus on increasing annual gifts and makes recommendations for movement of assigned donors to major gift processing tracking. The incumbent works with the marketing, communications and outreach staff to coordinate cohesive annual marketing efforts to increase annual gifts through social networking and events, analyzing data regarding annual giving programs and past giving trends to provide analyses of program results and to plan for future segmentation. Incumbent is expected to serve as a liaison with university and community groups to share information about the Green Music Center; engage in campus and community activities and events that donors or prospective donors may attend; and contribute donor recognition, stewardship, and other appropriate information for campus newsletters. Additionally, incumbent is expected to enter contact reports into database in a timely fashion; draft memoranda of understanding for gifts when appropriate and facilitate their processing; collect and gather data for reports and inquiries; and attend conferences, seminars, and other development training as assigned.

The incumbent will provide substantial event planning support to execute donor events that forward our strategic fundraising plan. This includes but is not limited to developing a strategic event plan, managing list creation, invitation design and printing, RSVPs, and event memo/briefing development for the University cabinet and other leaders.

Under the direction of the Executive Director and the Senior Director of Development, the Annual and Foundation Giving Manager will identify foundation support prospects and will manage the cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of the gifts. With feedback from the development team and the Executive Director, serve as project manager for the proposal writing and reporting processes; conduct research on foundation prospects and suggest points of alignment with the Green Music Center’s programmatic objectives. Working with the University Advancement’s Advancement Services team, develop briefings for leadership in advance of meetings with foundation officers; and track all information, materials, and interactions in Raiser’s Edge.

Performs other secondary duties as assigned.

The majority of duties are performed in a dynamic, fast-paced office setting however additional duties may be performed in various locations on the Sonoma State University campus, including working both indoors and outdoors to support and participate in university activities and events requiring the ability to speak and hear, sit and/or stand for extended periods of time, and the ability to use and enter data into a computer. Additional development and donor related duties will be performed off campus in various locations. This position will require occasional travel, by automobile or airplane, and overnight stay to travel to trainings and meetings off campus. As an exempt employee you have some flexibility in your schedule however must be available during the regular campus hours Monday through Friday to meet the operational needs of the campus and department. Evening and weekend hours are required, and it is expected that the incumbent will be present at donor lounges and events related to performances. Your specific start time is determined by your Appropriate Administrator. You must maintain regular and acceptable attendance at such levels as is determined by your Appropriate Administrator.

Qualifications

A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and two years of work experience in a related field is required; or the equivalent combination of related experience and education to provide the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Experience in performing arts and/or higher education fundraising is highly preferred. The incumbent must possess demonstrated skill with fundraising/CRM databases, most importantly the ability to pull and segment lists and track donor engagement. Experience in grant writing and managing annual fundraising program elements, preferably in the context of campaigns or in the face of significant growth requirements is preferred. Proficiency in writing and speaking Spanish preferred.

The successful candidate will demonstrate they are personable, a self-starter, energetic, motivated and possess outstanding interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish and maintain good and inclusive working relationships with staff, faculty, students, administration and the community at large. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required, including the ability to articulate the needs and opportunities of the Green Music Center with clarity and enthusiasm. Incumbent must be able to work well both independently as well as collaboratively with team members; must be able to manage multiple highly visible projects and competing priorities simultaneously; must be able to accept and give constructive feedback; must consistently demonstrate integrity and sound judgment when performing all duties. The successful candidate must possess strong organizational and administrative skills; the ability to prioritize and meet all timelines; demonstrated experience in designing and implementing successful fundraising strategies; and solid computer skills, including, but not limited to, intermediate skills with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and using database software (including developing queries and segmenting lists). The successful candidate will perform their fundraising duties according to the Association of Fundraising Professional’s code of ethical standards. The incumbent must also possess the ability and willingness to travel by both car and air, with occasional overnight stays. Must possess a valid California Driver's License at the time of hire.

The duties of this position may include participation in decisions that may have a material financial benefit to the incumbent.
