Job Description


Job Title: Groundskeeper/Property Maintenance

Job Status: Full time, 40 hours/week

Reports to:  Landscape & Systems Manager & Property Manager        


  • Maintain highest standards of grounds cleanliness and order; including sweeping driveways, stone walkways, sidewalks and patio decks, and raking gravel walkways to remove fallen leaves and other debris.
  • Collect trash, debris and stage waste material for removal.
  • Perform seasonal grounds maintenance such as leaf-raking, mulch replacement, composting, pruning shrubs, mowing turf grass and mowing open space areas.
  • Apply seed, fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides to landscape plants and open space areas.
  • Hand-water and monitor irrigation of plantings, especially during time of establishment and drought.
  • Seasonal pruning of ornamental landscape and trees, including fruit trees.
  • Pond maintenance, including weeding, trapping, and cleaning filters.
  • Harvest fruit and vegetables under direction of Landscape & Systems Manager.
  • Maintain irrigation systems including cleaning filters, replacing emitters, repairing broken water lines and repairing irrigation valves. Basic knowledge of time clock systems required.
  • Communicate with and alert management of maintenance or troubleshooting issues.
  • Track weekly duties accomplished and submit summary of completed work at the end of each week to Manager.
  • Ensure all outdoor furniture is clean, and wash when necessary, including light fixtures and fence railings.
  • Collaborate with contracted landscape and other specialists to perform repairs and seasonal adjustments, and implement design and plantings as directed.
  • Run errands as needed, including driving Meadowlark Farm vehicles to pick up supplies and construction materials, or to deliver vehicles for fueling, maintenance or repair.
  • Perform routine maintenance on tools and equipment used at Meadowlark Farm such as lawn mowers, weed-eaters and leaf blowers.
  • Tend to flock of chickens on a rotating basis with other team members.
  • Perform minor building maintenance & repairs; including but not limited to light plumbing, painting, carpentry, and simple electrical work.
  • Other farm-related duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time.


Duties and responsibilities of this position may change over time at the discretion of the Company and/or management, and may expand beyond those Primary Responsibilities specified above.



Must be able to work alone or as part of a team.   Absolutely must have a positive attitude, good communication skills, and work well with the team.  Must be responsive to requests made by the property owner.



This is a full time 40 hours a week position. The normal work schedule is Monday thru Friday from 7:30 am to 4:00 pm with a half hour lunch break. Occasionally, the schedule may be modified to include weekend work to accommodate special events at Meadowlark Farm or to remedy maintenance emergencies due to systems failure or severe weather.

While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly exposed to an agricultural environment containing moving mechanical parts; fumes or airborne particles; outside weather conditions, vibration, plants and animals. The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

  • Perform heavy physical labor on a daily basis.
  • Must be able to operate equipment such as ATVs, weed-eaters, walk-behind mowers tractors, front loaders, leaf blowers and other farm equipment as required.
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 25 pounds above head.

Experience / Abilities:

  • Experience in landscape maintenance preferred.
  • Familiarity with identification of and the growing requirements of common landscape plants is highly desirable.
  • Detail oriented with attention to cleanliness and order throughout Meadowlark Farm.
  • Experience with tractors and front loaders is highly desirable.
  • Must have basic household maintenance and repair skills; including light carpentry, plumbing, and simple electrical skills.


Language Ability:

  • Requires basic communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers.


Mathematical Skills

  • Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to perform these operations using units of US money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.



Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions.
  • Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional variables.


Technical Skills:

  • Must be able to perform basic computer functions.
  • Must be able to utilize and communicate with a cellular phone.


Certificates and Licenses, and Other:

  • Must have a valid California Driver’s License.
  • Must satisfactorily complete a background check.
  • Must sign a confidentiality agreement in the form provided by the Company.
