POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for assisting the Site Director in program development and implementation, supervision of children and working as a member of a team.  Staff is responsible for ensuring children’s social, physical, spiritual and mental development in the program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Collaborate with Site Director in planning and leading a creative program that is age-appropriate for school-age children. Plans daily and monthly activities for the program, usually themed.
  • Supervise and be actively involved with children assigned to your activity area. You are responsible for the health and safety of children at all times.
  • Provide leadership for activities. Both small and large group activities (i.e., sign-in, out/circle time/huddle/values discussion/asset development/games & crafts).
  • Assist Site Director in creating and planning special events, including parent & family oriented programs. Attend parent or family events related to program.
  • Attend and participate fully in weekly staff meetings. Meetings may include recommended or mandatory training programs.
  • Care and help with maintenance of equipment and site appearance. Includes daily clean-up of activities and site, as well as scheduled site maintenance.
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect. Follow discipline procedures as outlined by The Y Code of Conduct and the Site Director.
  • Continued pursuit of professional development through reading and further education.
  • Support student’s academic endeavors and studies. This is done through homework help, literacy support, and planned enrichment activities.
  • Help supervise program in Director's absence. Assistant Director will be Director in charge.
  • Engage in behavior conducive to team building with other staff. Open communication, encouragement, support and tolerance for each other are all essential in our department.
  • Participate and volunteer in the YMCA annual fund raising campaign. Campaign may include site event fundraisers and Y fundraising events.
  • Other duties as assigned by Director.
  • Act as a professional role model. You are representing the YMCA and our core values daily.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years’ old.
  • Must have at least 6 months’ experience working with children in a classroom or camp setting.
  • Before starting, employees will need to be fingerprinted through the DOJ and FBI.
  • Before starting, employees will be screened through the CA Sexual Offenders website (Megan’s Law).
  • Employee will have 90 days from hire date to take The Y’s Child Abuse Awareness Training, as well as other YMCA development trainings.

Pay Range: $15.20 - $17.00
